Lunch and Learn Series: for PTs, PTAs, PAs, ATs, OT’s and students of these disciplines

Program: An Inside (the palm) Job: Addressing Interossei Restrictions to Promote Hand Function

Presenter: Nate Short, PhD, OTR/L, CHT, FAOTA

Event Registration Details

Objectives: Upon completion of the presentation, the learner will be able to:

  1. Understand the anatomy and biomechanics of the interossei muscles and their 
    contribution to hand function.
  2. Identify dysfunction of the interossei through observation and clinical 
    assessment.
  3.  Discuss evidence-based techniques to address interossei restrictions to restore 
    mobility, strength, and function. 
  4. Consider integration of dry needling as a unique way to target and address 
    tightness of the interossei within a plan of care.

Nathan (Nate) Short is an OT/CHT with 15 years of experience who currently teaches at Abilene Christian University and practices at West Texas Rehab. He is the author of Functional Anatomy for Occupational Therapy and its companion text, OT Guide to Goniometry & MMT. His clinical/research interests include scapular assessment, dry needling, and cross-cultural practice. Outside of teaching/practice, he enjoys traveling with his family, biking, and reading.

CCU: This program is approved by TPTA (1 CCU). A certificate will be available if you register in advance. We will provide the certificate following the presentation and completion of the evaluation.

Cost: *PTs or PTAs in need of continuing education credit: $15.00 for APTA members/$25.00 non-members. If you are a CI for HSU and have had an HSU student during 2024 to currently, we will cover your CCU payment. All are welcome to attend Lunch and Learn free of charge if no CCU certificate is needed or if you are a current student.

Lunch is available for those attending in-person for an additional $12 and will include a Deli Lunch Box.
