Wendy K. Anemaet, PT, DPT, MSPT, PhD graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with Bachelor of Science degrees in biology, pre-med, and athletic training (1987), The University of Southern California with a Masters in Physical Therapy (1989), the University of South Florida with a PhD in Aging Studies(2008), and Regis University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (2014). Dr. Anemaet is a Geriatric Clinical Specialist, Neurologic Clinical Specialist, and Certified Wound Specialist, has a Geriatric Training Certificate as well as a Certificate of OASIS Specialist, and serves on the editorial board of Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation. She has co-authored books on home health rehabilitation and has published hundreds of articles in peer-reviewed and trade publications.
She has been a physical therapist since 1989 with experience in home health, acute care, rehab, outpatient, and skilled nursing. She is a Professor at Hardin-Simmons University Department of Physical Therapy since 2021 where her teaching responsibilities include Integument, Geriatrics, Neuroscience, and Multiple Systems. She lectures nationally on geriatric strengthening, wound assessment and management, falls prevention, and competency testing for home health physical therapists on the drug regimen review and pharmacology. Her current research interests include exercise, arthritis, and geriatrics. Dr. Anemaet is also actively involved in domestic and international missions as well as starting the Canine Companions service dogs training at HSU. She is excited to be involved in the development of the equestrian center at Hardin-Simmons University including hippotherapy, therapeutic riding, collegiate riding teams, and curriculum directed towards certifications, minors, and majors.
Dr. Dennis O’Connell “DO’C” holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Manhattan College and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio. He has a Master of Arts degree from Kent State University, and a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Toledo. He has also earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Hardin-Simmons University. He is a professor at HSU DPT program. His research has focused on metabolic, cardiopulmonary, and neuromuscular responses to acute and chronic exercise. “DOC’s” teaching responsibilities include Applied Physiology I & II, Clinical Diagnosis and Management: Cardiovascular & Pulmonary, and Critical Inquiry III. He has served as a reviewer for Medicine and Science in Sports, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Journal of Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, and Physical Therapy and selected published works can be found in the Journalof Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, WORK: Prevention, Assessment and Rehabilitation, and Perceptual & Motor Skills Journal and the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. He has authored “Special Tests of the Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Gastrointestinal Systems” (SLACK Publishing) with Drs. Janelle O’Connell and Martha Hinman and he is a coauthor of the HSU-Joni and Friends Wheelchair Manual. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and a member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the American Physical Therapy Association, and the Texas Physical Therapy Association. He is Past-President of The Texas Physical Therapy Education and Research Foundation, the American Heart Association-Region 16 and past Chair of the Abilene Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness. Dr. O’Connell has been selected as the HSU Faculty Member of the Year (2016) and APTA Humanitarian Award with Dr. Janelle O’Connell in 2019. In addition to being a licensed physical therapist, he is certified in Exercise Test Technology, Ergonomics, and Strength and Conditioning. He currently serves the community by providing educational programs to hundreds of individuals with diabetes annually. He regularly sees patients in the HSU PT clinic and acts as an Ergonomic consultant. Drs. O’Connell are co-founders of the HSU PT Ministries program.
CCU: This program is approved by TPTA (1 CCU). A certificate will be available if you register in advance. We will provide the certificate following the presentation and completion of the evaluation.
Cost: *PTs or PTAs in need of continuing education credit: $15.00 for APTA members/$25.00 non-members. If you are a CI for HSU and have had an HSU student during 2024 to currently, we will cover your CCU payment. All are welcome to attend Lunch and Learn free of charge if no CCU certificate is needed or if you are a current student.
